This is where it all begins, where you join us on the first step of our journey together. You'll meet your friendly expert guide and we'll get the formalities out of the way quickly so that we can get out there and start enjoying the safari you've been dreaming of.

Not many travelers come to the delightful Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, where forests carpet the hills. That means it's unlikely there will be many other travelers around, so you can enjoy listening to and watching plenty of birds along the forest trails, and possibly seeing lions and elephants, all in relative quiet.

You're lucky enough to be sleeping at Sarova Salt Lick Safari Lodge, one of southern Kenya's most distinctive places to stay. The unusual circular rooms all sit on stilts in the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, and the waterhole here draws large numbers of elephants and buffalos. Tsavo West National Park

You can expect to fall in love with Tsavo West, a massive park with so many attractions. Some of the highlights include elephants (often caked in red dust), lions (many of the males don't have manes), and possible sightings of rhino, hippo, hyena, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and even leopard. The wild landscapes include stunning escarpments, rolling hills and light woodlands. Over 400 different bird species have been found here.

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is where many safari travelers fall in love with Kenya. That's because this park packs a lot into a small space. Towering over it all is Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m), Africa's highest mountain: Kilimanjaro may be in Tanzania, but the best views are from Amboseli. Wildlife highlights might include lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, and, best of all, big-tusked elephants that you can get really close to. It's this combination of spectacular views and wildlife that really elevates Amboseli into the elite of Kenya's wildlife parks.

Elerai Camp Luxury

Tented camp Just outside Amboseli National Park

At Elerai Camp, 12km southeast of Amboseli National Park, you can expect to see Mt Kilimanjaro whenever the clouds clear, including from some of the safari tents. The tents themselves are large and filled with a mix of modern luxury and handcrafted wood designs. There's a swimming pool, restaurant, bar, and the views from here can seem to go on forever. Watch for elephants close by.

Final day with us

It's worth taking the time to explore Nairobi, which is both your gateway to so many safari experiences and a fascinating destination in its own right. Here you'll find museums, a national park and wildlife-rescue centers to go with the excellent shops, markets, restaurants, hotels and nightlife, as well as endlessly interesting street life.
